Tank Cloth Diaper Parts and Features

  1. . Before washing, make sure any solid matter is removed from your product. For items with heavy soiling that may stain or develop odors, rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear before storing for wash day.
  2. For a deep clean, start with a pre-wash on a short cycle using warm water (up to 140°F / 60°C) and the recommended amount of detergent, such as Tide Original to Line 1. Follow with a heavy-duty, longest-cycle wash in warm or cold water, again using the appropriate detergent amount. To ensure proper agitation, add other items to create a full load.
  3. For everyday or lighter messes or items already pre-rinsed, a regular cycle in cold or warm water (up to 140°F / 60°C) with the normal amount of detergent is sufficient.
  4. Whenever possible, hang to dry. If you’re in a rush, you can tumble dry on low.

We’ve got a Wash Routine App that helps you perfect your wash routine.

If you're looking to get started, here’s our standard recommendation:

  • Prep: Make sure any solid “stuff” is removed from the diapers, inserts, and liners before tossing them in the wash. Unsnap the inserts from the diapers.
  • Pre-wash: Run a short cycle in warm water with the recommended amount of detergent (we suggest Tide Original to Line 1).
  • Main wash: Do a Heavy Duty cycle (longest setting, max 140°F/60°C) with the appropriate amount of detergent, adjusting based on your load size. We recommend Tide Original.

We recommend line drying or hang drying your cloth diapers after each wash. But hey—life’s busy, and dryers are convenient. If you’re using one, tumble dry the inserts on medium heat.

For diaper covers, it’s best to skip the dryer when you can. The waterproof layer (PUL, or Polyurethane Laminate) is heat-bonded and can break down over time with high temps. The less heat it sees, the longer it’ll last.

If you do need to dry the covers, use low to medium heat. And if you’re drying inserts and covers together, pull the covers out after 10–20 minutes—they dry much faster since they don’t have absorbent layers.

Lil Helper diapers and inserts are fully absorbent straight out of the box—no prepping required. You can start using them right away.

We do recommend running a short wash cycle before first use to remove any dust that may have built up in the warehouse or during shipping. Use cold or warm water and only half the usual amount of detergent since the products are already clean. This quick rinse just freshens them up before they go to work.

For three days you would need 18 diapers (each diaper comes with a pair of charcoal inserts) and an additional 12 inserts.

Here’s a typical cloth diapering routine:

  • Newborns typically go through 8-12 diaper changes a day—let’s use 10 changes as an average. As your baby grows, this number will decrease.
  • Diaper covers can be reused at least twice before needing a wash. So each day, you’ll need 6 covers and 10 inserts.
  • After 2 days, you’ll have 12 soiled diaper covers and 20 soiled inserts. While you’re laundering, you’ll still have 6 clean covers and 10 fresh inserts, ready for use the next day.
  • For a 3-day routine, you’ll need 18 diapers and 12 additional inserts. Having a few extra diapers provides a little cushion.
  • By day 4, your clean stash will be ready to go again!

Best cloth diaper

I used all pocket diapers with my first 3 kids and they were starting to wear out. I upgraded to the lil helpers with my 4th baby and I wish I had them from the beginning. My 4th baby is almost 2 now and these diapers are still in amazing condition. They hold up so well and are so much easier to use than the pocket diapers. The snaps are absolutely genius.

Hello Ally!! Thank you so very much for your positive review of your Tank Cloth Diapers! It is the best news to read how they are working well for you and your family; from quality to ease of use! We love the convenience of our snaps too! We appreciate you and we hope to continue providing you and your family with high-quality solutions to all of life's leaky moments! - Amanda @ Lil Helper

It's always 5 stars, maaan.

I just keep coming back. It all started a few years ago when my sister gifted us a life saver blanket. Skip to today where we are cloth diapering our new baby (with the best reusable diapers around, believe me, we looked) and now I am talking a family member who is struggling with incontinence to get a system from Lil Helpers as well. We are purchased countless lifesaver blankets (we are even using them as mattress protectors in the winter!), waterproof bags, smocks, reusable diapers (the heavy duty inserts are magic!), and more.
Excellent materials, patterns are super cute, products are always functional.

Hey hey Kate!! Wowza!! Thank you for your amazing review and for being such a loyal customer. We appreciate you sharing your experience with so many of our products! It is the best news that our Tank Cloth Diapers, Lifesaver Mats, Smockets, and waterproof bags have been so helpful to you and your family. Thank you big time for recommending us to your family member; if they have any questions about our incontinence products, we are always here to help and can be reached at delight@lilhelper.ca. We hope that you have an amazing day! - Amanda @ Lil Helper

Blown away by no blowouts!

We started using these with my daughter when she was still in standard newborn size diapers. We are now several months in and we LOVE these diapers. Cleaning them is easy, I love the colorful prints, and the tank inserts are quite simply TANKS. We’ve had maybe one leak and that let us know it was time to size up the rise - and no problems since. My friends’ babies are constantly having blowouts but we have entirely escaped that so far. My daughter will sometimes hold poop for several days but the elastic at the waist and legs still manages to hold it in when the “poopocalypse” hits. Although we were gifted many disposable diapers at our shower, we’ve only used a handful of each size because we lil helpers so much. A dry bag for dirty diapers makes it easy to use these when out of the house, and a little sprayer on our toilet makes poop removal a breeze. These were an investment but I am so glad we took the plunge.

Hey Rachael! My goodness, we are blown away by the kindness and thoroughness of your review of your Tank Cloth Diaper!! It is the very best news to read that you find them to be easy for your daughter to wear, easy for you to clean, and able to hold all of the pee and poo! It's so true: Poopocalypses, Poopnamis, Poopnados don't stand a chance in our Tank Cloth Diapers! (And now I'm on a kick to find more natural disaster poop puns :) ) We hope that they continue to serve you well and that you and your daughter have a fantastic week! Thank you for choosing Lil Helper! - Amanda @ Lil Helper
